India betting online games causing fears? (part 1) - Vegas11
In 2021, a 31-year-old project coordinator of a construction company lost nearly Rs 400,000 while playing online poker games. An online poker game is a multiplayer game in which you are dealt a set of cards and you place bets.
These bets on online games account for about 80 percent of India's online gaming industry, according to the Electronic Games Federation of India (EGF). While groups such as the EGF say these players are "betting" their money on online games, others say it's "gambling".
Gambling is illegal in India. Some states in India, such as Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, have banned such betting online games, citing mental health and addiction concerns.
But others believe that gaming platforms have disclaimers warning players to limit how they spend their money. And its cost should be seen as an entry fee, not a gamble, and neglecting to bet on the boom of online games will be counterproductive!
